The Kiel Municipal Band is the musical representative of the city of Kiel and surrounding area.
Concerts are held in Kiel City Park during the summer and in other area communities. The band also participates in parades in Kiel, New Holstein, Elkhart Lake, Reedsville, Sheboygan, Eden and Mount Calvary. Over the years the band has performed across the U. S. and in Europe.
Founded in March 1928, the band saw some changes in the past year as its director, Dr. Lewis Schmidt, retired in 2012 and a new director came on board in August, Dr. Jon Meyer.
Some of the other scheduled events for 2013 include a Cathedral Concert at St. Peter’s UCC on April 7 starting at 4 p. m.; a patriotic concert in Kohler’s Ravine Park on July 4; sponsoring bingo at the Kiel Community Picnic in August; a Christmas concert at Kiel City Hall the first Saturday evening in December; and bingo sponsored during the Kiel Ice Carving event in February.
Watch the Tri-County News for announcements of new concert locations this summer.
Ryan R. Rabe is currently the president of the Kiel Municipal Band. Other officers are William Mueller, vice president; Elizabeth Muhs, secretary; Mary Olm, treasurer; Katrina Weir, board member; and Jean Vogel, board member.
