Bank busy with first-time home buyers

Community Bank & Trust on Sheboygan’s north side has been helping a lot of first-time home buyers this year.

It might seem like a well-kept secret, but a lot of people are buying homes these days for the first time in their lives.

That is no secret to Community Bank & Trust, which continues to remain very busy helping first-time and other home buyers with their financing.

And why wouldn’t people try to buy or at least refinance a home these days? Mortgage rates continue to be at record lows and qualifying first-time home buyers can take advantage of programs which require very little percent down payment.

Chris Kennedy, office president of Community Bank & Trust’s location at 4210 STH 42 on Sheboygan’s northwest side, said, “The best part of this bank is the feeling of community. We take pride in being involved in the community while really knowing our customers’ needs.”

They also are able to help customers with an array of banking products and services second to none.

Kennedy said making use of WHEDA programs for first-time home buyers is allowing many renters to discover they can afford a home for about what they have been paying in rent. Other borrowing also is picking up, Kennedy said, including many home owners choosing to do home improvement projects.

Community Bank & Trust also distinguishes itself in the area of commercial lending as it is second in Wisconsin in Small Business Administration loans. “We are so lucky to have a great team of people that can help out small businesses in the community,” Kennedy said. “We can do loans that all of the big banks can do while keeping the entire process local.”

A full underwriting process is done on SBA loans, of course, and the staff at Community Bank & Trust will help business owners and prospective business owners work through a checklist which includes having a business plan, proper financial systems in place, etc.

“Community Bank & Trust as a whole is one big family,” Kennedy said. “The heads of each department are always helpful and available on a moment’s notice. Decisions are made right here in Sheboygan.”

Not to be forgotten among the larger banking transactions for business and home lending are the more everyday functions of a bank. Once again, Community Bank & Trust has all the services customers might need, providing them with the feeling of a small, hometown bank.

A special tool which remains popular at Community Bank & Trust is the PowerInterest Checking account. In this era of low interest rates on savings accounts, PowerInterest Checking offers a solid rate on an everyday checking account.

Another example of how Community Bank & Trust works for the benefit of its customers is the fact it partners with other smaller banks to provide a network of no-fee ATMs throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. Customers can access that list online or via a brochure in the bank lobbies.

Community Bank & Trust has 11 locations. Those branches are conveniently located to have all areas of Sheboygan covered, as well as Plymouth, Elkhart Lake and Chilton. For customers traveling to the bigger cities, Community Bank & Trust has two locations in the Milwaukee area and one in Appleton.

“We like to be the small bank that can offer you everything,” Kennedy said.
