Association helps area builders

Mid-Shores Home Builders Association, Inc. (MSHBA) began in 1998 as a nonprofit professional trade association dedicated to promoting and preserving the homebuilding industry in the Calumet County area.

As a trade association, it is dedicated to the principle that the American dream of homeownership is central to the community’s spirit and well being and that the ability to realize that dream must be preserved.

Members include builders, subcontractors, suppliers, lenders and associates who support and take pride in quality workmanship and professional practices in the building trades.

MSHBA is an affiliate of the Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Together MSHBA, the WBA and NAHB form one of the nation’s largest and strongest trade associations.

Mid-Shores Home Builders Association has a long tradition of supporting charitable causes in the Calumet County area. This past year MSHBA assisted the Rich Loose family of Chilton and the Randy Klotz family of New Holstein by constructing handicap accessible ramps. MSHBA also awarded $500 educational scholarships to Cade Lefeber and Cody Roepke, both from New Holstein.

Jason Ruebl of JMR Builders, LLC was recently installed as the 2012 president of Mid-Shores Home Builders Association, Inc. by Brandon Bartow, secretary, Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA).

MSHBA officers also include David Charles, Charles Carpentry, LLC, past president; and Jason Heiberger, Christel & Heiberger Builders, Inc., president-elect. Julie Binversie, Premier Financial Credit Union, serves as treasurer and Pam Van Dera, Bank Mutual, serves as MSHBA’s secretary.

Directors include Glenn Christel, Christel & Heiberger Builders, Inc.; Sean Kelly, Accurate Housing Systems; Richard Mueller, RAM Enterprises; and Dan Schneider, Schneider & Schneider Construction, LLC.

2011’s Builder of the Year award was presented to David Charles, Charles Carpentry, LLC, Elkhart Lake. 2011’s Associate of the Year award was presented to Pam Van Dera, Bank Mutual, New Holstein. Several awards are chosen by the public at its annual Parade of Homes. 2011’s People’s Choice award winner for Favorite Overall Project was Charles Carpentry, LLC. Charles Carpentry, LLC’s project was also voted Favorite Kitchen and Favorite Layout/Floor Plan. Kraus Construction, Inc.’s project was chosen Favorite Curb Appeal.

MSHBA member Gary Roehrig of Roehrig & Savola Builders, Inc. was installed as 2012 Wisconsin Builders Association’s president at the Chula Vista Resort on Feb. 23.

MSHBA hosts annual events showcasing members’ talents, services and products, while promoting the industry and value of home ownership to the public. The annual spring Home & Garden Expo will be held March 2-4 in New Holstein, and showcases the latest products and services available for building or remodeling a home. The Expo will also feature large item door prize giveaways. In addition to the Expo, MSHBA will sponsor its annual fall Parade of Homes Oct. 5-7. The parade features new home construction as well as remodeling and additions within the Calumet County area. For More information about these events, visit

In addition to the spring Expo and fall Parade of Homes, members actively participate in many community service activities, a wide variety of educational programs, governmental affairs and host many social/networking events such as monthly networking and business meetings, a Member Spotlight, a Cookout and Casino Night and a Trap Shoot.

The band plays concerts year round including during June, July and August at Kiel City Park. A spring concert was held Sunday, March 25 in the New Holstein High School auditorium. Concertgoers are always treated to the band’s signature march, “Invincible Fidelity,” the copyright for which it purchased for its 75th anniversary.

The Kiel Municipal Band also participates in local parades, plays a concert the Friday night of the Kiel Community Picnic, sponsors bingo during the picnic and the city’s annual ice carving day, and sells CDs of its music.

The band also participated in the John Philip Sousa Memorial in Washington, D. C. in 2010.

Ryan Rabe is currently the president of the KMB, and Bill Mueller is the vice president. Other officers are Liz Muhs, secretary; Mary Olm, treasurer; and board members Katrina Weir and Jean Vogel. Lewis Schmidt is the band’s director.
