Kiel Progress briefs 2012
Preschool to celebrate 40th

Kiel Cooperative Preschool is a state-licensed early education program offering half-day classes for children 2-1/2 to 5 years of age.

Parents may choose to have their child attend two, three or five times per week. As a parent cooperative, parents are involved in all aspects of the program.

The curriculum at KCP meets or exceeds all Wisconsin Early Learning Standards. Children participate in hands-on activities focusing on skill development in the areas of fine motor, large motor, pre-reading, pre-math, science, social studies, and social/emotional development. At KCP children learn through play.

Kiel Cooperative Preschool is now registering children for the 2012-’13 school year, with limited openings still available. Interested parents should contact the preschool at 894-7451, or by e-mail at barb@ourkcp.org,to register a child, arrange a classroom visit, or receive more information

Founded in 1972, Kiel Cooperative Preschool is in its 39th year of providing a developmentally appropriate preschool experience to young children from Kiel and the surrounding area. The preschool opened through the efforts of area parents who saw the need for a preschool program in the Kiel area.

KCP will celebrate its 40th anniversary when school begins in fall of 2012. Parent committees are being developed to plan events to celebrate the anniversary.

A new science curriculum as well as individualized center activities have been added to the learning experiences KCP provides. A grant from the Kiel Area Community Chest has allowed KCP to build its lending library and literacy backpack program, both of which allow parents a convenient way to build early literacy skills at home.

Barb Forstner serves as the director/ lead teacher at Kiel Cooperative Preschool. Amy Meyer also teaches full time at the preschool. The parent board consists of President Michelle Vogel, Vice President Monique Curry, Secretary Mariah Murphy and Treasurer Lisa Erickson. Many parent volunteers contribute to the success of the program.

Kiel Cooperative Preschool is located in the upper level of City Hall at 621 Sixth St. For more information call, email or check out www.ourkcp.org.
