New Attitudes Dance Company is just finishing its first year of business and has already grown immensely in size and services offered.
Director and Instructor Karlyn Meyer opened the facility in partnership with her father Tom Schneider in April of 2015. “We offer instruction in many areas of dance for all ages from children to adult including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern and contemporary, pom-pon, hip hop, and Irish step dance,” Meyer said. “We also offer Zumba which is a fun, energetic cardio workout class.”
“Our beginner’s program, called Petite Pirouettes, is for dancers age three to five where we explore basic ballet fundamentals, tap skills, and encourage creative movement through interactive activities,” she added.
New Attitudes has not only grown in clientele, but has also expanded their staff to include numerous instructors. “We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful staff that is committed to sharing their passion with our students. In the past year, our staff has really grown! We’re grateful for the work they do here, the effort put into each class, and dedication to their students and our program,” Meyer said.
New staff added
New staff members at New Attitudes include Alex Jaeke specializing in Zumba and Petite Pirouettes; Megan Tyson and Jessica Winkler, Poms and Hip Hop; and teaching assistants Amber Kain, Madeline Hebel and Jordan Rempel along with Sara Rempel serving on the administrative staff.
“We’re also excited to welcome back Taylor Huff who will be teaching classes this summer while home from UW-Green Bay,” Meyer said.
“NADC is proud to be a part of our community,” Meyer continued. “We love what we do, and love being able to share it with community members of all ages. We’re committed to teaching quality dance education in a positive environment while providing our students with opportunities to grow through both their technique and esteem.”
Meyer is excited to be partnering with the Engler Center for the Performing Arts in Chilton for the center’s first annual spring performance. “Our students have been working hard in class on their production numbers and are eager to showcase their talents come show time. The show will take place Saturday, May 7 at 2 p. m.
New spring and summer programs at NADC include auditions for new competition companies. “Dancers involved in this program will have unique opportunities to perform at regional competitions throughout Wisconsin, attend conventions throughout the Midwest, as well as perform and participate in community events. Auditions will take place Tuesday, May 10 and Wednesday, May 11 at our studio facilities for Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Pom styles.”
“Our summer schedule will offer some classes new to NADC, including a musical theatre dance class,” Meyer added. “This class will teach an up-beat, jazz-based dance style perfect for students involved in community theatre looking to brush-up on their skills. The summer schedule of classes will be available mid-March and registration will begin Monday, April 4.”
Meyers enjoys the time spent with each student. “It’s the most rewarding feeling to see them improve class after class, to see that they are excited and eager to learn, perform, and grow as dancers. One of my students recently told me “I have so much homework and I get so stressed out. But then I come to dance and it all goes away. Dance is like my ‘happy place’.” To be able to provide a positive outlet for kids is an incredible feeling.”
“My dad and I consider ourselves so lucky to be where we are, as a part of such a wonderful, welcoming community,” she added. “We wish to say thank you to our staff, surrounding community, as well as our students & their families for a successful first year in business.”
