There is a sense of excitement in the showroom at Dick Brantmeier Ford in Sheboygan—for the cars that are on the lot ready to be sold, but also for a new one on the way soon.

The first-ever Lincoln MKC will be appearing this summer, and people such as Steve Meinshock of Dick Brantmeier Ford can hardly stand the anticipation.

“My wife drives a Ford Escape, and I’m thinking we will switch her to the MKC,” Meinschock said.

Like more than 99 percent of the population, Meinschock has yet to see the MKC in person; however, on paper, there is plenty to be excited about.

A person might at first be tempted to put the Lincoln MKC in the “crossover” class, but it is actually a member of a small, new class of vehicles—luxury small utilities. Meinshock said the vehicle does compare in size to the Ford Escape his wife drives.

One other way to summarize the Lincoln MKC is this: A lot of luxury at a reasonable price.

Reasonable price

A person would expect luxury from Lincoln, and they definitely get it in the MKC. What they might not expect is to get that much vehicle for a starting price of just over $33,100. Meinschock said even a very well equipped Lincoln MKC can be purchased without topping the $40K mark.

The new MKC blends the best traits of a sport crossover with the refinement of a luxury sedan. It begins with the classic Lincoln grille and continues with high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps with signature LED accents. Available 19-or 20-inch wheels make a bold statement while padded inner wheel wells help soften the sound of the road.

Inside, premium materials such as authentic aluminum and available wood trim enhance rich, soft-touch surfaces. An available expansive Vista Roof® offers a wide-open look at the world above, and available leather-trimmed seating for five and available 25.2 cu. ft. of rear cargo space offer plenty of comfort and room for passengers and cargo.

Under the hood, the Lincoln MKC features the all-new 2.3L EcoBoost® Powertrain producing 285 hp, the most in its class. The engine pairs three technologies— turbocharging, direct injection and twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT)—to give this smaller powertrain the power and efficiency to handle anything while providing a very reasonable 18/26 mpg fuel efficiency rating.

Continuous damping

A relatively unknown feature of the MKC is something Lincoln calls continuously controlled damping, which takes luxury driving to another level. An advanced suite of sensors continuously monitor and adjust the suspension. The sensors also detect body motion and steering and braking dynamics in milliseconds—faster than a person can blink. The driver can select the operating mode—Comfort, Normal or Sport—that suits the driving experience they prefer, from exceptional ride quality to a spirited, sporty feel.

The six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission offers the excitement of a stick shift with the convenience of an automatic. The wheel-mounted paddle shifters on the 2015 Lincoln MKC allow the driver to shift gears quickly without taking their hands off the steering wheel, or to simply relax and let the automatic mode glide efficiently through all six speeds.

Another sign of Lincoln luxury is the fact the MKC offers six different wheel choices, from an 18-inch painted aluminum to 20-inch polished aluminum with dark stainless painted pockets, with several nickel choices in between.

Here’s another new one and another sign of Lincoln luxury: As the keyholder approaches the vehicle, LED accent lights welcome the driver back. Sensing the keyholder’s approach (up to eight feet away), exterior lighting brightens. Door-handle pockets glow in soft lighting tuned to complement the vehicle’s color. A Lincoln logo welcome light illuminates the entrance in front of both the driver and passenger. And available warm ambient cabin lighting welcomes the driver back to their home away from home.

Pick a color inside

Available ambient lighting creates a soothing atmosphere with seven available colors. Light emits from the front-console cupholders, door-release handles, front and rear footwells, and

front-door storage pockets. The driver can choose the color that matches their mood.

As a person might imagine, there is also plenty of technology available on board the Lincoln MKC. The owner can connect to their MKC remotely using the available MyLincoln Mobile™ app. The available embedded modem communicates with the smartphone app and allows a person to start, lock, unlock and locate their vehicle from virtually anywhere in the world. They can even set up a scheduled remote start. Simply open the app and use it to set the MKC to start up five to 10 minutes before you have to head out—it will be all warmed up and ready to go.

Features of the MKC continue with the class-exclusive hands-free liftgate, which allows a person to kick their foot under the rear bumper to open or close the liftgate.

Available active park assist is one of the many driver-assist technologies available in the Lincoln MKC. Active park assist uses ultrasonic sensors to help take the guesswork out of parallel parking. Simply press a button and the sensors will locate a suitable parking space. Active park assist operates the steering wheel while they driver stays in control of the accelerating, braking and shifting.

And just as active park assist helps guide the vehicle into a spot, class-exclusive park out assist uses the same sensors to help get out of a tight spot.

Also available is a leather-wrapped steering wheel; autofold power mirrors which automatically fold in when the vehicle is locked and unfold once the driver is in the vehicle and the door is closed; collision warning and lane keeping systems; adaptive cruise control which slows automatically as surrounding traffic slows; a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with a radar-based cross-traffic alert; and the SYNC with MyLincoln Touch system which allows for personalization of various settings, voice recognition, hands-free phone and an eight-inch in-dash touchscreen.

All that luxury and technology and the MKC only has an AM radio...just kidding. It actually features an enhanced THX® II Certified Audio System specially designed for the 2015 Lincoln MKC. The system puts out 700 watts of power and features 14 strategically placed speakers.

It ought to be evident by now why the employees of Dick Brantmeier Ford are keeping their eyes out for the arrival of the new Lincoln MKC.
