Unused prescription drug collection dates have been scheduled in Manitowoc County.
Remaining collection events in 2014 are planned for Thursday, Sept. 4 from 2 to 5 p. m. at the Kiel Community Center, 510 3rd St.; and Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. at the Manitowoc County Expo Merchants Building, 4921 Expo Dr., Manitowoc.
In addition, permanent drop boxes are located at the Manitowoc Police Department, 910 Jay St.; and the Two Rivers Police Department, 1717 E. Park St.
At any of these events, needles and sharps will not be accepted. Do not bring medications to events before or after the listed times. Please keep items in their original containers. Do not mix medications in the same container. People may block out their name on the drug container but please keep the drug name visible. Household cleaning products will not
be accepted. Businesses should call (920) 683-4333 for collection dates, times and registration information.
Acceptable drugs to be dropped off are prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, veterinary medications, controlled substances, and illegal drugs.
A mercury thermometer exchange will be available at the collection events only. Keep thermometers separate in a sealed container. No not place thermometers in drop boxes.
Drug collections such as these help prevent drug abuse and overdoses and also help keep water supplies clean.
